Fellow Bacon Freak, Brad England, sent me this horrifying message & picture via text message:
TEXT FROM BRAD: This photo was taken at 8:10 p.m. EDT at the Pompano Beach, FL, Costco Wholesale store. …I got to the end of the aisle that had spices and seasonings and noticed this bag on the end cap. It was not refrigerated.

ME: EW! Is it bacon or salad?
TEXT FROM BRAD: And I get what you’re saying now, it DOES look like a bag of salad! I didn’t notice until I looked at the picture again. Gross. That’s my opinion, anyway.
ME: Gross is a gross understatement.
WHY would Costco do this to bacon? What did bacon do to tick Costco off? And WHY ISN’T IT REFRIGERATED? What kind of horrible chemicals and preservatives are keeping that bag’s ecosystem running? Do I need to get a documentary crew out there? I have so many questions…

OK … normally I would never consider giving such valuable ink, prominent space or personal and professional props to any one, single establishment, within the same month, let alone the same week, but there’s a good reason for me to do so this week.
After showing the entire country that they truly are a family oriented restaurant run by sincerely caring human beings, by offering free short-stacks of pancakes to raise money for The Children’s Miracle Network .
The good folks over at The International House Of Pancakes, now more commonly and simply referred to as IHOP are using their business wisdom and understanding of culture and human psychology by cashing in on the massive popularity of Bacon-Mania!

So maybe I spend too much time around the breakfast table. But recently, when I saw a picture of the Florida State University football mascot… And well I couldn’t help but wonder, … “WHY IS HE WEARING BACON ON HIS FACE?”
Let me be clear: I am not criticizing this look at all. If anything, I’m envious and wondering if he’s single. (I KID! But no really, if anybody has any info on that, let me know…)
I am pretty sure if I wore bacon on my face, the following would surely occur:
- Breakouts (the acne kind, not the prison kind)
- Odd status updates on all social media outlets, “I just got my face porked!”
- Small children would point and stare more so than usual
- PETA would start a campaign saying: “I’d rather go naked than look like that girl.”
- Kevin Bacon would get curious questions from his wife, “Why are you on this gal’s face?”

Truth be told, gourmet culture can occasionally get a fickle and undecided, and numerous popular trends and fads in gourmet dining tend to pass from “pizzazz” into “passé” in a mere matter of months.
Such is NOT the case in the increasingly expanding and intensifying “Swine & Wine” craze that seems to just keep growing and growing by leaps and bounds on a weekly, if not daily basis.

Bacon isn't just about good taste, It's about smart choices as well!
Pregnant? Screw the pickle cravings and reach for the pork! (That’s what she said!)
According to some very smart scientists at the University of North Carolina, eating a breakfast made up of bacon and eggs will NOT get you a firm scolding from your doctor, but rather a standing ovation. (This will only if he’s a fun doctor, otherwise, you may just get a non-plussed nod.).
The results of the UNC study maintain that a chemical in pork products can actually be pro-active in the development of an unborn baby’s brain.
The hero of the hour is a micronutrient called “choline” which can also be found in foods such as beef liver (gross), cauliflower (totally disgusting) and tofu (blasphemy!).
